Arc de Triomf Barcelona, Spain

The Arc de Triomf in Barcelona Spain was unveiled in the year 1888. For the most part the construction is made primarily of stone and brick. The arc is located in Barcelona in Caalunya spain.

The arc is a triumphal arc that was created in Barcelona and built originally by architect Josep Vilaseca I Casanovas. It was created as the original entrance to the 1888 Barcelona world fair and continues to mark the wide open entrance to the central promenade as well as the Ciutadella park. This park now occupies the main site of the original world fair.

This arch was built out of a reddish style brick work in a style that is known as Neo Mudejar. The front of the sculpture contains the inscription that reads Barcelona welcomes the nation’s and the other side is a stone carving that says recompense. There are similar structures that can be found in many other cities such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris the soldiers and sailors arc in New York City as well as the Wellington arch in London.

Perhaps what is most impressive in this artwork is that it was one of the earliest examples of the architects work. Josep Llimona would go on to continue producing works throughout Barcelona. Many of the pieces in his earlier works were dedicated to the participants of the world exposition including this arch.

One of the simplest ways to access this feature in Barcelona is to head to it through the Arc de Triomf Metro station. Quick access to the feature can be found through here as this is a very popular attraction for photos and sightseeing.

The beautiful brick work as well as the statues and fa├žades that adorn the outside of this arc deserve extensive recognition. This is definitely a site that you will want to spend at least a few minutes looking over and admiring for its beauty.
